Prayer of
An Altar Server
O God, you have graciously called me to serve you upon your altar.
Grant me the graces that I need to serve you faithfully and wholeheartedly.
Grant, too, that while serving You, may I follow
the examples of Sts. Tarcisius and John Berchmans in their love for the Eucharist, and walk the same path that led them to Heaven.
Sts. Tarcisius & John Berchmans, pray for me and for all servers.
Ministry Requirements
- Must serve 2 masses per week/ 8 masses per month (school season)
- Must attend monthly First Saturday meetings
- Must perform assigned Saturday services
Eucharistic Ministers
Eucharistic Ministers assist in the distribution of Holy Communion during mass. They also distribute Holy Communion to sick, elderly and homebound parishioners under the direction of the pastor.
Hospitality Ministers
Stationed at the door of the church, Ministers of Hospitality (ushers) act as hosts to warmly welcome the people of God to each Eucharistic celebration, assist in seating the congregation, support other ministers and help in the collection.
An Usher's Prayer
Lord, you make all kinds of people, even people like me. In your love, you gather them all into your Church.
As you gather your people this day, help me to serve them in a Christ-like manner, even as your Son served those who gathered about him.
Make me prayerful and patient, helpful and understanding, and may I radiate the joy that faith brings as I serve their needs. Give me your strength to support my fellow ministers.
May all who assemble to celebrate our common faith in the risen Savior be glad of heart for being here and for having encountered your Son in one another, in our priest, at the tables of the Book and the Bread, and through the ministry of ushers like me.
I ask this in Jesus' name.
Amen.
Lectors
MInisters of the Word (lectors) assist during the Liturgy of the Word, such as the Readings, Responsorial Psalm and Prayer of the Faithful. Lectors are scheduled on a weekly basis for each mass.
Music Ministers
The Agana Heights parish is blessed with a selection of choirs, ranging from children, youth and adult members. All are welcome to share their musical talents.
Techas
Techas are traditional prayer leaders carefully selected and trained from an early age to lead Chamoru novenas, rosaries and hymns. This special ministry, highly valued by island culture, often is taught from generation to generation within family clans. Techas are often asked to lead traditional prayers in island homes, churches and funerals.
Raise the Youth Ministry was formed Feb. 27, 2000 as an inspiration from the late +John G. Mendiola, a 9th-grade CCD teacher who saw the need for a parish youth program. The ministry's goals are:
-Promote First Friday adoration.
-Assist the church in teen ministry.
-Educate teen ministers in social, moral and justice issues.
-Learn and embrace the Franciscan spirituality.
-Be drug-free and a positive role model for other youths.
Activities include retreats for youths 12-19 years old, quarterly youth masses, outreach programs to Confirmation students and unchurched youth, monthly fellowship, youth Bible study, social/moral/ justice workshops and pilgrimages.
The group meets every first and third Friday of each month. First Friday activities include mass, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and fellowship. Third Friday activities are designed to enhance knowledge and understanding of youth ministry, increase spiritual growth regarding church teachings and gain skills to fulfill roles as youth ministers.
